A french creation

Contrary to popular belief, a Club chair is of French origin. The first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century with the development of new upholstery techniques, when craftsmen combined horsehair padding and bi-conical springs in the seat, the back and the armrests. It was then called a “comfortable” armchair in contrast with the “stylish furniture” widely used at the time. The shape developed throughout the 20th century, from Art Nouveau and Art Deco at the beginning to the post-war “Moustache” and “Chapeau de gendarme”
